Those who live in glass houses they say should not throw stones because once a stone hits the glass; it could shatter it from the foundation.

Criticism is part of assessment and sometimes needed to get things in shape when we are going wrong but it can be difficult for those who kill by the sword to see a shadow of knife above them.

When it comes to criticism both constructive and destructive ones, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode (FFK)is one of those who spilt it unbothered whose Ox is gored.

It came as a rude shock to right thinking Nigerians on Tuesday when a video went viral showing FFK insulting, castigating and threatening a reporter of Daily Trust Newspaper, Mr. Eyo Charles after the journalist asked him a question which the twitter warrior now Mr. “Short Fuse” termed offensive and rude.

Let’s look at what brought out the question. It was said that the minister was in Cross River state inspecting some works after visiting almost 6 states on same inspection duty. This probably brought about curiosity; that as person who is no longer active in government, how would you be going on a tour in different states without somebody somewhere financing it?

This made the inquisitive reporter ask who is bankrolling his tour, maybe bankrolling is somehow unusual to the hearing, the reporter simply asked who is financing his tour. When you are not a wanderer or a nomad, how would you be inspecting works that do not concern you even at your own expense? As generous as Santa Clause is, you still have to pay to get his gifts.

FFK is a notorious jabber, constant fault-finder with trait of a garrulous mindset that is obvious in almost all his tweets and statements. Thanks to Twitter, his new colony where he uses as a platform to insult and post demeaning words to people. Out of the arrays of people he has insulted, the vice president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo remains one of his biggest targets on twitter. On many occasions, FFK has called Osinbajo “short, evil and wicked fake pastor, evil beast” “The one who pretends to be angel” “Political errand boy” “Midget” and more. Never has the man replied him maybe he knows he is a big mouth rabble rouser and foul-mouthed talkative whose words need no response.

If FFK could respond to an innocuous question with threat and insult like such, it showed that he is egotistic in nature, someone who cannot take a dose of his own medicine , thereby unworthy of being a public figure and not in anyway different from those he constantly rebukes and chastises.

Meanwhile, two things caught my attention in the entire video. One is that people use authority, connections and influence to get what they want at the expense of innocent people. The former minister could be heard saying “I will report you to your publisher” report him to his publisher for what? To sack him for discharging his duty?

This became worrisome to me because if there was no video evidence to back the reporter up, he could have got to the office and saw a branded sack letter on his desk. That little act showed that some people can use the connections they have to bring someone down just because of misunderstanding.

The second was that when the ex minister was ranting and calling the reporter names, none of his colleagues was able to defend him and call the ex minister to order. Gosh! Is this how we call ourselves honorable men of the press? Even if they had disparity concerning the question, they could have at least defended the reporter instead of them echoing “sorry sir sorry sir” as if they were under FFK’s payroll. This is a call on the men on the press to see the profession as a noble one, discharge their duties without fear or favour.

FFK is trying to be a clone of Donald Trump but he missed the point.

Even with the disagreement between Trump and newsmen, I have not heard him threaten any of them.

In conclusion, if FFK parades himself as a public figure, he must be accountable and ready to answer calls that pertain to accountability. At this point in time, his weakness has been exposed to the world and he should henceforth be expecting more offensive and “rude” questions that he won’t like to hear.
